Two children killed in Bishnupur bomb attack as Manipur violence escalates

Fresh violence in Manipur has claimed the lives of two children after a bomb attack in Bishnupur district, intensifying tensions in the conflict-hit state. The explosion occurred in the early hours at Tronglaobi village, where suspected Kuki militants allegedly targeted residential areas. The blast struck a house while the family was asleep, leaving two minors fatally injured and their mother wounded.

The incident triggered immediate outrage among residents, with protests erupting in nearby areas. Demonstrators gathered in large numbers, blocking roads and demanding stronger security measures. Tensions escalated further as incidents of arson were reported, with vehicles set on fire amid growing anger over the attack and concerns over civilian safety.

Simultaneously, fresh firing was reported from the Ukhrul district, where armed groups allegedly opened fire towards Tangkhul Naga villages, including Sikiphung and Leingangching. Reports indicate that civilians from nearby Kuki villages were moved to safer locations before the firing began, raising fears of coordinated escalation and potential retaliatory violence in the region.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed deep anguish over the incident, describing the attack as horrific and unacceptable. He emphasised the urgent need for stronger vigilance and assured that those responsible would be brought to justice. The Governor also condemned the violence and extended condolences to the bereaved family, calling the loss of young lives a profound tragedy.

In the aftermath, authorities imposed emergency restrictions in affected areas, including shutdowns and road blockades, disrupting normal life. Schools have been closed, and security forces have been deployed across sensitive zones. The latest incidents underline the fragile situation in the state, which continues to grapple with ethnic tensions and recurring violence.
